The Lismore Amphibious Home project is an innovative initiative designed to provide flood-resilient housing for residents in Lismore, a region frequently affected by severe flooding. The project involves the creation of a two-bedroom home, specifically engineered to allow residents to remain in the area while staying safe and secure during flood events.
At the core of this design is the use of cutting-edge amphibious technology, which enables the home to rise with floodwaters. This innovative approach prevents water from entering the living spaces while ensuring the stability of the structure, effectively mitigating the impact of rising floodwaters without the need for residents to relocate. This solution helps residents stay connected to their community and sense of place, even in the face of natural disasters.
In addition to flood resilience, the project prioritizes long-term livability with a focus on aging in place. The homes will be designed to meet the evolving needs of residents over time, incorporating features that promote accessibility, comfort, and independence. By supporting aging in place, the project ensures that individuals can remain in their homes for years to come, fostering a sustainable, safe, and supportive living environment for all residents.
